Learning goes beyond the classroom
What really appeals to me about the work that De Bildung Academie does is the vision that learning isn’t limited to the traditional school setting, but is about building your own reality, with personal development as a driving force. After graduating from high school, I took a gap year at the Vrije Hogeschool, where I experienced for the first time how personal development works when it intersects with social awareness. My own educational journey and career have been far from linear, and it took me some time to recognize the value in that. I want young people to be able to confidently follow their unique paths and to provide them with the tools to shape their own futures.
Advising and Connecting
At De Bildung Academie, I work on projects at the intersection of education and the social sector, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Among other things, I contribute to strengthening and fostering collaboration between vocational education (MBO), higher professional education (HBO), and university education (WO), as well as citizenship education. I am involved in projects focused on social engagement, participation, resilience, and inclusion among young people (ages 12–30) and provide tailored advice to organizations with learning and development needs, based in part on our Bildungs principles.
Bringing People Together
The world is changing rapidly, and I hope to do my part to create a society where everyone can develop themselves on an equal footing, while showing consideration for one another. As someone trained as an interdisciplinary researcher and philosopher, I am, in any case, very enthusiastic about bringing (young) people together. Each of them brings their own questions about their place in the world and a unique perspective, which enriches the dialogue. Since I grew up partly abroad, I’m looking forward to putting the Bildung Academy on the international map as well!
